App means beer drinkers won’t go thirsty during lockdown

A historic independent family brewer has turned to technology from Derby-based App4 to ensure beer drinkers can enjoy their favourite pint during lockdown.

Holden’s Brewery, which was founded 105 years ago, has teamed up with the Sadler Bridge Studios-based company for a bespoke app which has been launched at six managed pubs.

It will give its customers the chance to drink cask-conditioned ale in the comfort and safety of their own home.

Customers can order draft Bitter, Golden Glow and Special and its bottled range remotely and collect their order from its pubs.

Holden’s has 20 pubs in the Black Country, Staffordshire and Shropshire – it is hoping to extend use of the app throughout the estate,

Director Abi Kemp said: “We are a traditional, family brewer and saw technology as a way of keeping our business going during these difficult times.

“Our priority is to keep our customers and staff safe and that is why we were working with App4 on a bespoke app to enable pubgoers to order their favourite drinks to enjoy in the comfort and the safety of their own home.

“With this app, we arrange a specific time for the customer to pick up their order, making sure we socially distance.

“App4’s team were excellent. They were really on board with what we needed and they were adaptable, so we knew we could create exactly what we wanted.”

Ian Chambers, App4’s chief executive and founder said: “We are delighted to have been able to help Holden’s Brewery, so that they are ready to continue their business on day one of lockdown.

“We have provided exactly what they wanted in terms of ordering system which makes it easy for their customers and their staff.

“We worked with them closely to define the specification and it is working brilliantly.

“More and more pub chains are turning to our technology and we are pleased to help them stick within government guidelines.”
